It is a city that brings together tradition, diversity, and innovation. Located in southwestern Colombia, between the Andes mountain range and the Pacific region, it is a meeting point for multiple Indigenous, Afro-descendant, rural, and urban heritages that make this territory a privileged setting for intercultural dialogue and creation.
As one of the country’s leading cultural and academic centers, Cali offers solid infrastructure for international events, a wide range of hotels, excellent transportation services, and renowned culinary richness. Its vibrant artistic life, expressed through museums, theaters, galleries, festivals, and heritage sites, together with its proximity to some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet, makes the city an exceptional place to reflect on the relationships between territory, culture, and meaning-making processes.
"Semiotic Territories: Ways of Knowing and Paths in Creation" expresses the spirit guiding this edition of the Congress and finds in Cali a privileged setting for its realization. The convergence of cultures, landscapes, memories, and creative practices that characterize the city makes this territory an ideal space for researchers, artists, creators, and students from around the world to meet. From Latin America, Cali will welcome you to share an academic and cultural experience that promotes reflection, cooperation, and innovation around the contemporary challenges of semiotics.
But no territory can be fully understood through words alone. Cali and Valle del Cauca must be experienced, explored, and interpreted. We invite you to discover, in the following audiovisual journey, the cultural, natural, and human richness that will make this Congress a unique experience.
The 17th World Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS-AIS) will take place in Cali, Colombia, from July 26 to 30, 2027, at the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes, one of Colombia’s most prominent higher education institutions in the arts.
Founded in 1932, the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes is a public higher education institution recognized for its leadership in artistic education, research, creation, and cultural engagement. Through its Faculties of Visual and Applied Arts, Performing Arts, and Music, it offers undergraduate and graduate programs in visual arts, graphic design, music, theater, and arts education, training artists, designers, performers, educators, and researchers committed to academic excellence, innovation, and social transformation through the arts. All of its academic programs hold High Quality Accreditation granted by Colombia’s Ministry of National Education, certifying compliance with the highest standards in teaching, research, artistic creation, and community engagement. For more than nine decades, Bellas Artes has educated generations of artists and professionals who have contributed significantly to the cultural development of Colombia and Latin America, while promoting nationally and internationally recognized projects, festivals, and creative spaces.
This record of academic and artistic excellence consolidates the institution as one of Colombia’s leading references in higher education in the arts and as a privileged setting for academic, scientific, and cultural gatherings of global scope.

The airport operates flights with airlines such as Avianca, LATAM Airlines, Copa Airlines, American Airlines, JetBlue, Aeroméxico, Wingo, JetSMART and World2Fly, among others. Likewise, thanks to connections through the main air distribution centers of Bogotá, Panama City, Miami, Madrid, New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Istanbul and Dubai, participants will be able to travel to Cali using international companies such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Air France, KLM, Iberia, Lufthansa, British Airways, Air Europa and other airlines with global reach. This connectivity facilitates access to Cali from America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
Participants will be able to reach Cali through direct flights or with a single connection from the main cities of the world:
The Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport offers authorized taxi services, transportation platforms, vehicle rental companies and private transportation. For greater security, it is recommended to only use the official services available at the airport.
The Congress headquarters is also easily accessible from different parts of the city through taxi service, transportation applications and the integrated mass transportation system MIO (Massive Integrated of the West).
Colombia maintains a migration policy that facilitates the entry of international visitors for academic, scientific and cultural activities. Citizens of a large number of countries can enter Colombian territory without the need for a visa for short-term stays, in accordance with the current regulations of the immigration authorities.
Participants whose nationality requires a visa must process it with sufficient advance notice at the Colombian Consulate or Embassy corresponding to their place of residence.
It is recommended to consult in advance the entry requirements, the validity of the passport, the required documents and the immigration conditions applicable to each nationality on the official websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia and Migration Colombia. Attendees are responsible for complying with all immigration provisions in force at the time of their trip.
Participants who require an official letter of invitation to support their visa application may request it from the Organizing Committee once their proposal has been accepted and the Congress registration process has been completed. The sole purpose of the letter is to support the immigration process before the competent authorities and does not constitute a financial commitment on the part of the organization of the 17th World Congress of the International Association of Semiotic Studies (IASS–AIS). Expenses related to transportation, accommodation, food, insurance, immigration procedures and other costs associated with the trip will be the responsibility of each participant, except in those cases expressly contemplated by the Congress organization.
The Organizing Committee recommends that international participants plan their trip well in advance, verifying the immigration requirements applicable to their nationality, the validity of their passport, booking flights and accommodation, as well as taking out travel insurance.
Check itineraries, available fares and conditions directly with the airline.
