You must have an active IASS–AIS membership to submit proposals or abstracts for the academic participation spaces.
Submit your proposal for the academic participation spaces from July 31 through October 31, or submit individual papers from November 16 through January 31. Each participant may submit a maximum of two (2) proposals and two (2) abstracts.
Once your proposal/application has been accepted, you may complete your registration by paying the registration fee. Once payment has been verified, you will receive a final registration confirmation email. Registration can only be completed through the Congress website. Payments may only be made by bank transfer or online credit card payment.

Participation in the 17th World Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS–AIS) constitutes acceptance of these Participation Terms and Conditions, which govern registration, proposal submission, participation in academic activities, and other matters related to the organization and conduct of the Congress.
All participants are advised to read the following information carefully before completing their registration.
Registration for the 17th World Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS–AIS) must be completed exclusively through the official Congress website.
Once the participant has completed registration and the corresponding payment has been verified, a confirmation email will be sent to the address provided during the process.
Registration will be considered formally confirmed only after the participant receives this official communication.
Registration fees must be paid through the official electronic platform of the 17th World Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS–AIS), using the payment methods enabled at that time. Available options and payment instructions will be published in this section of the website.
If the payment method belongs to someone other than the registered participant, this must be indicated during registration to facilitate transaction verification and proper invoice issuance, where applicable.
Registration will be formally confirmed once payment has been approved and verified by the Congress organizers. The participant will then receive an official registration confirmation email.
The payment platform will use security measures designed to protect electronic transactions and the confidentiality of participants’ financial information, in accordance with the standards implemented by the authorized payment gateway.
Any bank fees, currency-conversion differences, or charges imposed by financial institutions will be borne by the participant, where applicable.
Invoices will be issued exclusively in electronic format and sent to the email address registered by the participant.
Invoices will be prepared using the information provided during registration. Participants should therefore verify all details carefully before completing the process, especially when an invoice must be issued to an institution or organization.
If a participant is unable to attend the 17th World Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS–AIS), they may request cancellation in writing to the Organizing Committee through the official Congress email address.
Cancellation and refund requests will be accepted through May 31, 2027. The registration fee will be refunded after deduction of a twenty-euro (€20) administrative charge for managing and processing the cancellation.
No refunds will be issued for requests received after the deadline or in cases of non-attendance (no-show).
Registrations are personal and non-transferable and may not be assigned, transferred, or shared with third parties.
Approved refunds will be processed after the Congress and issued through the same payment method used during registration.
In duly justified exceptional circumstances, the Organizing Committee may consider cancellation requests submitted after the deadline. Each case will be reviewed individually and the decision communicated to the participant in writing.
By submitting a proposal, the authors declare that the work is original, that they are its authors, and that all necessary permissions for its dissemination have been obtained.
By submitting a proposal, the authors authorize the Organizing Committee to publish its title, abstract, authors’ names, institutional affiliations, and relevant academic information on the official website, in the book of abstracts, the academic program, and other official Congress publications.
The intellectual property rights to all contributions will remain with their authors at all times.
Photographic, audiovisual, and audio recordings may be made during the Congress’s academic, cultural, and ceremonial activities.
By completing registration, participants authorize the Organizing Committee to use this material solely for academic, scientific, institutional, and Congress communication purposes, including publication on the official website, in proceedings, institutional reports, academic publications, media outlets, and official social media channels.
This material will be used with full respect for the dignity, image, and rights of participants.
Personal information provided during registration will be processed in accordance with Article 15 of the Political Constitution of Colombia, Statutory Law 1581 of 2012, Decree 1074 of 2015, and all other provisions governing personal data protection in Colombia.
The data collected will be used exclusively to organize, administer, and conduct the 17th World Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS–AIS), including registration management, evaluation of academic proposals, certificate issuance, invoicing, participant support, and communications related to Congress activities.
The Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes, as the host institution and data controller, will safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and security of the information supplied by participants by adopting the technical, administrative, and organizational measures required for its protection.
Personal information will not be transferred, sold, or shared with third parties unless required to provide Congress-related services, expressly authorized by the data subject, or required by law or court order.
Participants may exercise their rights to access, update, correct, or delete their personal data, and to withdraw consent for its processing, in accordance with Colombian law and the Personal Data Processing Policy of the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes.

Requests, complaints, or claims related to the Congress must be submitted in writing to the Organizing Committee through the event’s official email address.
Each submission will be reviewed and answered within a reasonable period according to its nature and complexity.
When additional verification or specialist advice is required, the response period may be extended, with timely notice to the participant.

By completing registration, the participant declares that they have read, understood, and accepted these Participation Terms and Conditions, together with the policies, regulations, and other academic and administrative provisions governing the 17th World Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS–AIS).

The Organizing Committee may update these Participation Terms and Conditions when required by academic, administrative, technical, logistical, or force majeure circumstances. Any amendment will be published promptly on the official Congress website and will take effect on its publication date.
In all cases, the Organizing Committee will ensure that updates observe the principles of transparency, fairness, and good faith that guide the organization of the Congress.
